Doctor At Odisha’s SCBMCH Arrested For ‘Sexually Assaulting’ 2 Patients
Cuttack: A resident doctor of Cardiology department of SCB Medical College & Hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Cuttack city was arrested on Tuesday after two patients levelled allegations of sexual assault against him.
Sources said the accused doctor was taken into custody based on preliminary investigation conducted into the complaint lodged by the two women at Mangalabag Police Station in the city. An case was registered against the accused doctor and he was arrested.
The accused was identified as senior resident doctor in Cardiology department of SCBMCH Thakur Dilbagh Singh.
The state government has also constituted a three-member committee to probe the allegations of misconduct by the resident doctor.
The Health and Family Welfare department issued an order in this regard. The committee will undertake a detailed enquiry into the allegations and recommend appropriate action to the government, the order said.
The panel comprises Prof Santosh Kumar Mishra, DMET, Prof Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, Superintendent, SCB MCH, Cuttack and I/C Dean & Principal, SCB MCH, Cuttack, and Prof Roman Ratan, Joint DMET.
As per sources, the incident took place on August 11 when they had come for an echocardiogram (ECHO) test. An FIR has been lodged at Mangalabag police station in Cuttack city in this regard.
The accused doctor was admitted to the ICU of the hospital after allegedly being thrashed by family members, including some undergraduate medical students, of the victims following the allegation.
Cuttack Additional DCP Anil Mishra had earlier told reporters that the incident took place on Sunday and police received a complaint on Monday. Accordingly, a case was registered and investigation is on. “We have taken the incident seriously and the statement of the victims will be recorded,” he said.
