Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has hailed the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk, triggering speculation that he will be back on the micro-blogging site.
“I am very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” Trump wrote on his own social media platform Truth Social.
Twitter banned Trump after the 2021 assault on the US Capitol which the Republican leader has been accused of inciting.
Musk, the world’s richest person who finally acquired Twitter on Thursday night after months of uncertainty and speculation, has indicated lifting Trump’s ban.
Without specifying on whether he would end his Twitter exile, Trump said he liked Musk and wished him luck.
“I don’t think Twitter can be successful without me,” Trump quipped during an interview with Fox News Digital.
Most observers are convinced that Trump will rejoin Twitter as soon as Musk gives the go-ahead. After all, the 76-year-old former US President once had more than 80 million followers on Twitter, compared just over 4 million on Truth Social, which he founded in October 2021.
Trump has made his intentions clear to run for the 2024 Presidency.
