New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held another phone conversation on Tuesday.
The lengthy chat is significant coming as it does amid heightened tension in West Asia and days after US-Iran peace talks failed in Islamabad.
“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas. We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure,” Modi wrote on X.

This is the third phone call between the two leaders this year, and the second since the Iran war broke out after US-Israeli strikes killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran on February 28.
Modi and Trump spoke on February 2, sharing progress in the trade deal which has been pending for months. Trump called again on March 24 to discuss the West Asia situation.
Modi had called for the restoration of peace in West Asia at the earliest and also talked about ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure.
A two-week ceasefire was agreed on six days ago, but after the Islamabad talks failed to produce a result, tensions are rising again. The US Navy on Monday started a blockade of Iranian ports near Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran has described Trump’s order as “irresponsible and dangerous”, and a “grave violation” of its sovereignty.
