New Delhi: Donald Trump said in Washington on Thursday that he could be visiting India next year, but New Delhi has no information about it yet.
“As far as the comments of President Trump regarding his visit to India is concerned, I do not have anything on this to share. I will let you know when I have something to share with you,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.
During an interaction with reporters at the White House’s Oval Office, the US President emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “wants” him to visit India.
“He (PM Modi) is a friend of mine, and we speak… He wants me to go there. We’ll figure that out. I’ll go. I will have a great trip there with Prime Minister Modi, he’s a great man. And I’ll be going,” Trump said.
When asked if he is planning to travel to India next year, Trump said, “It could be, yeah.”

Trump may have in mind the QUAD Summit, which India is expected to host. However, the dates are yet to be announced.
The previous QUAD Summit, which brings together leaders from India, Australia, Japan and the United States, was held in 2024 in the US, at Wilmington, Delaware.
On trade talks with India, Trump sounded positive, and reiterated his claim that India has stopped buying oil from Russia.
“It’s great, going good. He (PM Modi) stopped… Largely he stopped buying oil from Russia,” Trump said.
Indo-US trade discussions hit a ‘roadblock’ after the Trump administration imposed 25 per cent reciprocal tariffs on India and an additional 25 per cent levies for Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil. Talks have resumed, though they are far from taking a final shape.
