Dreaded Thief Nabbed In Odisha’s Cuttack City After 35 Years!
Cuttack: The Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested a dreaded thief, who was allegedly on the run for the last 35 years.
The accused, identified as Hemant Das, was nabbed while he was trying to steal from a house in the city.
According to police, the accused in the last 35 years has stolen valuables worth over Rs 5 crore from 500 places.
Apart from Cuttack, he went on a looting spree in Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. With the money earned by selling these stolen articles, he would visit different places in India and spend time with call girls, police added.
While studying at BJB College, Das was arrested in an assault case and was lodged in the Jharpada Special Jail. He came in contact with a thief while serving the jail term and later became a dreaded looter.
Around 100 cases are pending against him in Bhubaneswar.
The Commissionerate Police further said that Das has only Rs 1400 in his bank account.
