New Delhi: A drone hit the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, hours before a match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League was scheduled at the venue from 8 pm, local media reported.

The match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, as well as games scheduled for the next few days, have reportedly been shifted from Rawalpindi to Karachi.

A restaurant near the stadium was partially damaged, following which authorities sealed the area, according to local media reports. Two injured persons were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the drone’s origin and whether it was carrying any payload.

The development came hours after Pakistan attempted to strike 15 military targets in India, and in response, India destroyed air defence radar systems in Lahore on Thursday.

There has been no official statement yet from Pakistan regarding the purported drone attack at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Tensions escalated between the two countries escalated after India carried out Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, destroying terror camps in nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to avenge the deadly Pahalgam attack on April 22.

On Wednesday, even as Pakistan promised to give India a fitting reply, Pakistan Cricket Board had said PSL matches will go on as scheduled. Rawalpindi was scheduled to host back-to-back games from May 7 to 10.
