Bhubaneswar/Jajpur: President Droupadi Murmu, on the second day of her six-day visit to her home state of Odisha, offered prayers this morning at the historic Maa Biraja Temple in Jajpur district.

The revered shrine, one of the most important Shakti Peethas in eastern India, saw elaborate security to facilitate the President’s visit. It was also beautifully decked up with flowers.

According to sources, Murmu arrived in Jajpur by a special helicopter,

which touched down at the helipad located on the premises of the new administrative building. Her motorcade then made its way to the temple. She performed the sacred ‘Pinda Dana’ ritual, oblations offered to departed ancestors, at Navi Gaya, a spiritually significant site within the temple premises. Nabhi Gaya holds special importance for ancestral rites, often compared to similar traditions observed at Gaya in Bihar.

This marked a deeply personal and religious highlight of her itinerary.

While general darshan at the shrine was suspended starting from 5.30 am, its premises remained inaccessible to devotees during the duration of her visit to ensure smooth proceedings. All schools in the town were also shut to facilitate smooth arrangements and ensuring public safety amid the high-profile visit.

Later in the day, President Murmu will travel to Balasore district to grace the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Fakir Mohan University as the chief guest. During the event, she will pay floral tributes to the legendary Odia poet and literary figure Byasa Kabi Fakir Mohan Senapati, after whom the university is named. She will also unveil a statue of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the campus and inaugurated a new 1000-seater Convention Hall, enhancing the university’s infrastructure for academic and cultural gatherings.

In the evening, the President will depart for Puri, where she will perform ‘pind daan’ at Swetaganga tank the following morning and visit Shree Jagannath Temple for darshan of the sibling deities around 7:40 am. She is likely to spend nearly 40 minutes at the 12th-century shrine, which will remain closed for devotees from 6 am until her departure at 8.20 am.

During the final leg of her Odisha tour, the President will visit Mayurbhanj district, where she is slated to participate in multiple official and cultural programmes and also visit the Simlipal National Park, which will remain closed for tourists for three days starting February 4.

On February 6, Murmu is scheduled to attend the Black Swan Summit India, an event jointly organised by the Odisha government and the Global Finance & Technology Network to discuss the impact of AI and future technology stacks on global capability centres, education, and the future of jobs in the FinTech and InsurTech sectors.
