Bhubaneswar: A dog was allegedly run over by a car driven by a drunk man at Surekha Vatika Market Complex, Atala Village in Balianta area here on Thursday. An FIR was lodged by People for Animals organisation in this connection.
According to the complaint, the incident happened at 3.36 pm on January 28 when the drunk person at the wheels drove the vehicle to run over one of the adopted dogs of the organisation thereby killing the animal on the spot. It has also been alleged that it was an intentional act.
The incident was captured on CCTV camera. The Hyundai Verna car with registration number OD02BM3600 is owned by some Kumar Arindam, as per mParivahan app, according to the complainant.
“The killing of a dog violates IPC 279 for rash driving on a public road. It also violates IPC 429 which is punishable as per the law. He also violated 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. It is also a violation of Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960,” the complainant said.
