Bhubaneswar: ‘Dry day’ is coming to Odisha’s capital. Wait, it’s not what you think.
This #DryDay is to beat dengue in Bhubaneswar.
In a citizen-driven campaign, every Thursday and Sunday, henceforth, people will be urged to remove all stagnant water in their homes as part of a #DryDay campaign announced by Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das to beat dengue.
“The idea of observing #DryDay is to ensure household-level cleanliness and clear all unused, stagnant water inside homes. We urge citizens to actively participate in this drive and prevent mosquito-breeding,” Das said during a meeting held at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday.
“We are looking at large citizen participation and hence all corporators, sanitary inspectors and health staff shall take up household-level awareness through volunteers, WhatsApp group messages,” she said.
Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhar, Additional Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethy, Deputy Commissioner, Health and Sanitation (BMC), Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, senior officials and corporators among others attended the meeting.
