Bhadrak: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly attacked his elderly parents with a sharp weapon over a family dispute at a village in Chandbali area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
As per information, the incident took place in Talabandha village in Kherang panchayat under the jurisdiction of Chandbali police station of the district on Tuesday night. The elderly couple sustained critical injuries in the deadly attack.
Accused Manoj Nayak and his wife have reportedly fled the village after the incident. His father Madhusudan Nayak and mother Madhuri were first rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.
While the exact motive behind the violent act is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation indicated family dispute to have triggered the brutal attack.
Locals said Madhusudan and his wife were in their house when Manoj turned up and picked up a fight. The heated argument soon escalated into a scuffle during which Manoj, in a fit of rage, took a dagger and attacked his parents.
On being informed, a police team from Chandbali reached the spot and started an investigation. Forensic evidence is being collected and eyewitnesses are being interrogated in connection with the crime.
A hunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the accused, police said.
