Berhampur: An elderly man was killed by his son over a property dispute at Samarjhola village under Hinjilicut tehsil in Ganjam district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as A Krishna Rao (75).
A Dibakar Rao, who was working in a steel company in Nagpur area of Maharashtra, had come to his hometown a few days ago. An altercation between father and son turned violent and Dibakar hit his father with an iron rod. He died on the spot.
Dibakar’s brothers caught hold of him in an effort to prevent further damage and immediately called up the police.
Police arrested the accused and sent the body to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for post-mortem.
Locals told police that the murder was the fallout of a longstanding dispute relating to property.
