New Delhi: In a significant step to enhance voter convenience, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday rolled out a new standard operating procedure (SOP) that ensures the delivery of Electors’ Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls.
This applies to newly-enrolled as well as existing voters who update their details.
The new system includes real-time tracking of EPICs — from the moment Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) generates the card till its delivery via the Department of Posts (DoP). At every step, voters will be notified through SMS alerts, ensuring transparency and improved service communication.
ECI has launched a dedicated IT module on its ECINet platform, which will replace and streamline the existing EPIC issuance process, incorporating the Application Programming Interface (API) of the DoP for seamless and efficient card delivery.
The new SOP is part of ECI’s digital transformation strategy which will enhance electoral service delivery and safeguard data security.
