Sundargarh/Puri: Panic gripped villagers in two villages in Odisha after herds of elephants damaged crops and houses early on Sunday.
In Sundargarh district, a herd of 14 elephants barged into Gudiali village under Bonai Forest Range and rendered extensive damage to the standing crops and vegetables. The herd also damaged the walls of some houses. Apart from this, the herd has also damaged crops in the adjoining villages of Ghusura and Alekhpur.
Following information, a team of Forest staff rushed to the village to drive out the herd.
In Puri district, a herd of about 25-30 elephants entered Manijipur village of Gadabalabhadrapur panchayat in Kanas block in the morning and caused extensive damage to paddy crops.
Till reports last came in, Forest staff are yet to reach the village.
