New York: Elon Musk is going through a purple patch.
Hand-picked by Donald Trump to head the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under his second term of US Presidency, the tech billionaire has now been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for advocating free speech.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO’s nomination has been submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee in recognition of Musk’s contributions to the fundamental human right of freedom of speech and peace, according to European Parliament member Branko Grims.
“Your nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 has been successfully submitted,” confirmed an email from the Nobel committee, a screenshot of which was shared by Grims.
“The proposal that Mr Elon Musk, for his consistent support for the fundamental human right of freedom of speech and thus for peace, receives the Nobel Peace Prize 2025, was successfully submitted today. Sincere thanks to all the co-proposers and everyone who helped with this challenging project!” Grims, a Grims, a Slovenian politician, wrote on X.
Grims had said in December that Musk deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for promoting ‘free speech.’
“I propose that Elon Musk receives the Nobel Peace Prize for the next year, Grims told Brussels Signal. The European Parliamentarian was of the view that Musk had done much more for the “freedom of speech, which is a basic human right,” than anybody else in the third millennium.
Last year, Norwegian Member of Parliament Marius Nilsen had nominated Musk for the Nobel.
However, the award went to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese grassroots organisation of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
