Kabul: Afghanistan’s defense minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid has warned Pakistan that any act of aggression against his country will face a “calculated” response.

The Taliban would respond to any aggression in a measured but determined manner, he warned even as tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan continue to escalate.

Mujahid drew a clear red line against what he described as Pakistani aggression, warning that Islamabad would face consequences for any military action against Afghanistan, as reported by News18.

“Enough is enough,” he said, signalling the Taliban leadership’s stance at a time when the regime marks its fifth year in power in Afghanistan.

Mujahid’s remarks are likely to further raise tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, amid continuing disputes over cross-border security, militant activity and military operations along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

While the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been continuing for years, it escalated into a full-scale war in late February 2026.

Pakistan launched airstrikes following militant attacks inside its territory attributed to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The Afghan Taliban denied harboring the group and retaliated with border assaults, triggering extensive military engagements and regional mediation efforts.

The Afghan Taliban allows the TTP to stage cross-border attacks from Afghan soil, Pakistan has claimed. Accusing Islamabad of violating its sovereignty, the Afghan Taliban has denied these allegations, stating that TTP presence is an internal Pakistani issue.

The Afghan government refuses to formally recognise the legitimacy of the 2,670-kilometer colonial-era border, known as the Durand Line. Deepening friction has grown as regional dynamics shift, including security concerns over other active groups like ISIS-K.

Islamabad executed targeted airstrikes inside eastern Afghanistan in February 2026 following a severe spike in domestic terror incidents inside Pakistan, Retaliatory border fire and military exchanges prompted Pakistan’s defense leadership to declare an “open war” status as fighting reached urban and strategic zones.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported rising civilian casualties, displacement, and closed border crossings, which disrupted trade and critical supply lines. Diplomatic interventions by international actors and nations like China have struggled to produce a permanent ceasefire or a durable political framework.
