Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday allayed any flood fear in major rivers of the state, which has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days.
Barring flash flood in the Jalaka, the water level of all major rivers in the state is below the danger mark, said Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources, Jyotirmay Rath while briefing media.
“Though the Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 14 gates to release floodwaters from the reservoir, there is no flood situation in the Mahanadi as there has been no rainfall in the upper catchments in the last 24 hours,” he said.
On the formation of a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal, Rath said his department is ready to tackle the flood situation.
He further said they are keeping a close watch on the weak river embankments at 48 places in the state.
