Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended sub-inspector (SI) of Excise, In-charge of Tangi excise station in Khurda, while allegedly accepting Rs 8,000 bribe.
The SI, identified as Amarendra Satapathy, had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 8,000 every month from a licensed liquor vendor to allow him to run his business smoothly. He also threatened to initiate action against him if the demand was not met.
Following a complaint with the Vigilance authorities, a trap was laid to nab Satapathy. The entire tainted bribe money was recovered and seized from him, a Vigilance release said.
Simultaneous searches are currently underway at three locations linked to the SI to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, it added.
