Baragada: A Niramaya medicine centre operating at the Community Health Centre in Odisha’s Baragada is facing serious allegation after a 15-year-old boy was reportedly given an expired medicine.

According to allegations, Mukesh Sahu, son of Choban Sahu from Nilibandha Pada, had suffered a cut injury on his finger. After examining the boy, the doctor at the CHC prescribed the antibiotic Cefpodoxime Proxetil and directed the family to collect it from the Niramaya medicine centre at the hospital.

The family alleged that the medicine given to them had already crossed its expiry date in May 2026. Shortly after taking the tablet, Mukesh reportedly complained of dizziness and started vomiting. After examining the medicine strip, the parents found that its validity period had lapsed.

The incident has sparked questions over whether proper monitoring and quality checks are being carried out for drugs supplied under the Niramaya scheme.

The boy’s family has sought a detailed investigation into the matter and demanded action against those found responsible.

Senior Health department officials were not immediately available for comment.
