Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression has moved over north interior Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal after crossing the coasts near Digha late last night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The system was about 10 km southeast of Baripada (Odisha), 40 km north-northwest of Balasore (Odisha), 80 km southwest of Midnapore (West Bengal), 120 km south-southeast of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and 140 km east-northeast of Keonjhargarh (Odisha) at 8.30 am. It is expected to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
Under its influence, Odisha may continue to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur.
An orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may also prevail in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonnapur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.
Heavy rainfall is also likely Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may occur at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph occasionally gusting to 65 kmph may also prevail along and off the Odisha coast on July 28 and gradually decrease thereafter.
On July 29, heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may continue in Baragada district. Heavy rainfall may also occur in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) is also likely in these districts.
While there is no heavy rain warning during the next three days, thunderstorm activity may continue in several districts including Kataka, Puri and Khordha. Heavy rainfall may resume in the state again on August 3 with yellow warning issued for Sundaragada, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
