Bhubaneswar: Odisha is bracing for heavy to extremely heavy downpours through July 17, triggered by a low-pressure system expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts within the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
The weather agency has issued a red warning for the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak and an orange warning for Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Jajpur, Khordha, Puri, Kataka, Nayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamala. The intense downpours are expected to trigger widespread flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, closure of underpasses, and landslides or mudslides in vulnerable terrain. Additionally, this severe weather may also damage kutcha roads, vulnerable structures, standing crops and horticulture.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph occasionally gusting to 60 kmph may prevail along & off the Odisha Coast from July 14-18.
July 14
Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak.
Orange warning: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two in Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Jajpur, Khordha, Puri, Kataka, Nayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Yellow warning: Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur in Debagada, Sundargada, Anugola, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Kandhamala and Rayagada.
July 15
Red Warning: Scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur district.
Orange warning: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two in Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Kenujhar, Khordha, Puri, Kataka, Jajpur, Kandhamala and Nayagada.
Yellow warning: Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur in Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Debagada, Sundargada, Anugola, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada.
July 16
Orange warning: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Kataka.
Yellow warning: Isolated heavy rainfall may also occur in Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, Khordha, Puri, Jajpur, Debagarh, Sundargada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Anugola, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamala and Nayagada.
July 17
Yellow warning: Isolated heavy rainfall may continue in Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsingpur and Kataka.
While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at a few places across the state over the next week.
