Bhubaneswar: With a low pressure area forming over Northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday warned about squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph over North Bay of Bengal adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal, along and off Odisha coast from June 26 to 27 morning.
Odisha is also likely to experience scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at one or two places in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Bargarh till 8.30 am on Monday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is also likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda. There is also a forecast for heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, and Khurda during this period.
“Temporary waterlogging is likely in low-lying area and poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. There is also a possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutchha houses,” the MeT office said.
Traffic advisory may be seen for movement in your destination and arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done, it added.
Orange warning for very heavy rain continues for the subsequent 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely at a few places in Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi and at one or two placesin Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, and Nabarangpur on Monday. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) has been issued for one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
On Tuesday, one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada and Nabarangpur may experience heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm), the IMD said in its midday bulletin.
There is no further warning thereafter.
The MeT office further said that the system over Northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha & Jharkhand during next 2 days.
