Mumbai: Babil Khan went through an emotional roller-coaster after a meltdown on a dramatic day.
The actor, son of late Irrfan Khan, shared and then deleted a video in which he slammed several celebrities like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Gaurav Adarsh, Arjun Kapoor.
He also deleted his Instagram account after the video was widely shared on social media.
By the end of the day, though, Babil was back on Instagram, where he addressed the controversy and said that the video was misinterpreted.
In a new Instagram Story, Babil clarified that the viral video, which sent shockwaves across the industry and sparked rumours and debates, was “extremely misinterpreted.”
The actor shared the post of Kubbra Sait where she had shared the official statement from Babil’s family on the latter’s controversial video.
Babil wrote in the caption, “Thank you so much (red heart emoticon), This video was extremely misinterpreted, I was trying to show support to (Instagram accounts of actors) Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Gaurav Adarsh, Arjun Kapoor, Raghav Juyal, Arijit Singh.”
He added, “I genuinely don’t have the energy to indulge more but I do this as responsibility for my peers that I truly admire.”
Babil also reshared Instagram Stories of Raghav, and wrote, “Raghav Juyal, bhai you are my icon, my idol and my elder brother that I never had.”
In Babil’s controversial now-deleted video, he appeared visibly upset and in tears, as he spoke about feeling alienated in the film industry.
“What I mean to say is that, I just want you guys to know that there are people like Shanaya Kapoor, Ananya Pandey and Arjun Kapoor and Siddhant Chaturvedi and Raghav Juyal and Adarsh Gourav and even… Arijit Singh? There are so, so many more names. Bollywood is so f****ed. Bollywood is so, so rude,” Babil had said, breaking down.
His team and family later issued a statement and clarified that the video was widely misinterpreted.
The statement read, “Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days – and this was one of them. We want to reassure all his well-wishers that he is safe and will be feeling better soon.”
It further read, “In the clip, Babil was sincerely acknowledging a few of his peers whom he believes are making meaningful contributions to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. His mention of artists like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, Arjun Kapoor, and Arijit Singh came from a place of genuine admiration – for their authenticity, passion, and efforts to restore credibility and heart in the industry.”
