Chennai: Recently, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb revealed that Amit Shah wants to establish BJP governments in Nepal and Sri Lanka. A message followed that the BJP has launched a branch in Sri Lanka and has appointed V Muthuswami as its leader.
It is true that a new party named Sri Lanka BJP has been launched in the island nation. However, Muthuswami has clarified that this party has nothing to do with India’s BJP.
Sri Lanka’s Election Commission Chairman Nimal Punchihewa on Monday clarified that reports of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) setting up a political unit in the country is untrue and is not permitted under law.
This party was formed on March 6. Muthuswami is a Colombo-based Tamil man of Indian origin. The party’s name is Ilanki Bharatiya Janatha Katchi (IBJK) or the Sri Lanka BJP.
He has listed the objective of the party to be the development of education and sports for Tamils.
