Though the biopic – to be directed by ‘The Kerala Story’ maker Sudipto Sen and produced by Sandeep Singh and Dr Jayantilal Gada — was announced five months ago to mark Roy’s 75th birthday, there was no further news.

Now, talks have gained momentum following the demise of Saharasri earlier this month.

The producers have started putting the cast in process, and the biopic is learnt to hit the floors early next year.

Anil Kapoor has emerged as one of the frontrunners for the lead role. Boman Irani is also learnt to be in the running.

“The passing of Roy has been a sad event, but the makers have been in discussion to revive the project for quite some time now. They have been in active discussions with actor Anil Kapoor to portray the character, and are waiting for him to sign the dotted line,” Hindustan Times quoted a source as saying.

“While Anil has shown interest and has had several discussions with the team, he has not said yes to the project yet. It seems he is hesitant to get on board because of the controversial aspects of Roy’s life. However, the makers are hoping he will give his nod soon. In fact, the makers want to start shooting the film early next year with the film covering all aspects of his life from being born to his death,” the source added.

Boman is the likely second choice. The makers will approach him only if Anil declines the offer.
