Fact Check: Will ‘RRR’ Get An Oscar Nomination In Visual Effects Category?
Chennai: SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ was released in theatres on March 25, and it didn’t take long for the film to emerge as a box-office blockbuster.
Starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, RRR not only did great business in India but wowed global audiences as well.
Having grossed over Rs 1200 crore worldwide, RRR was the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 before ‘KGF Chapter 2’ inched higher.
A section of the international audience has dubbed ‘RRR’ as film of the year, and demanded that Rajamouli’s movie be India’s official entry to Oscar 2023. But that didn’t happen, as Gujarati film ‘Chhello Show’ was chosen for the honour.
Rajamouli then submitted ‘RRR’ for Academy Awards in the ‘for your consideration’ section.
His wish may be fulfilled as American magazine Variety has predicted that ‘RRR’ will be one of the five nominations in the Visual Effects Oscar category.
According to the popular magazine, Srinivas Mohan will be one of the nominees for his work on RRR, while Top Gun 2, Avatar 2, Black Panther 2 and The Batman will be the other contenders in Visual Effects category,
Rajamouli recently won Best Director at New York Film Critics Circle, which has certainly boosted the film’s prospects.
