Cuttack: A joint team of Commissionerate Police and Weights and Measures Department busted a duplicate engine oil manufacturing unit in Sunariban area near Khairapol under Jagatpur police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.
The raid was conducted following local complaints and intelligence inputs.
According to sources, the unit recycled used or burnt engine oil collected from garages and sold those by misusing logos of well-known brands. The Weights and Measures Department confirmed violations in labelling, pricing, and warranty claims, aimed at deceiving customers.
While the owner of the factory managed to escape, police have detained the factory manager for questioning.
The unit is believed to be part of a larger network distributing substandard engine oil. Grease, car and two-wheeler lubricants, brake oils were also found.
The operations at the unit have been halted and efforts are underway to trace the absconding owner and uncover the full extent of the racket, the sources added.
