Fake GST Racket Busted In Odisha, 2 Arrested For Rs 641 Crore Fraud

Bhubaneswar: The State GST Enforcement Wing on Friday busted a fake invoice racket involving Rs 641 crore and nabbed two persons.

The arrested persons are Gurdit Dang, managing partner of Tirupati Traders and representative of Satguru Metals & Power Pvt Ltd, Rourkela and Sujay Maitra, Director of Smartageis Trade Venture Private Limited of Rourkela. While Dang was arrested in Rourkela, the Enforcement Wing nabbed Maitra in Bhubaneswar.

GST Commissioner Sushil Kumar Lohani told the media that the racket was run by 18 persons. They availed bogus input tax credit (ITC) of Rs 115.10 crore by raising fake purchase invoices of Rs 641 crore in the name of  fictitious business entities located in different places of Odisha.

The arrested persons will be produced in court and further investigation is on to ascertain involvement of other persons in the racket, Lohani said.
