Conman Decamps With Gold Jewellery From RPF Staff’s House

Bhubaneswar: A man, in guise of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official, looted 150 grams of gold jewellery from a railway employee’s house here on Friday.

The accused visited the house of Srinibas Rao at Railway Staff Quarters Colony in Mancheswar here and told his family members that a case had been registered against Rao and the house will be searched. Being nervous, Rao’s family allowed him to conduct the house search.

Later, the accused asked Rao’s son to accompany him with the gold jewellery to help out his father who, according to him, was in RPF custody. However, after covering some distance on a motorcycle, the accused dropped the victim’s son at an isolated place and fled with the valuables.

“The incident took place when I was away from my house. Before committing the crime, the looter had attempted to rob another house in the locality,” Rao said in a complaint lodged at Mancheswar police station.

Terming the incident as a case of ‘swindling’, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahu said, “The police are yet to get any lead in the case. However, investigation is on and CCTV cameras installed near Rao’s house are being verified.”
