Farmers-Govt Stalemate Continues, Next Meeting On Jan 15

New Delhi: The eighth round of talks between leaders of farmers unions and Union government representatives failed to break the deadlock on Friday, with both parties sticking to their principal stand.

The farmers told the government their “ghar wapsi” can take place only after “law wapsi“. And the government reiterated a complete withdrawal of the laws wasn’t possible as they have been welcomed by a large section of farmers in most parts of the country, The Indian Express reported.

Union ministers Narendra Tomar, Piyush Goyal and Som Parkash, who have been tasked with negotiating with farmers’ leaders, urged the unions to think about interests of the entire country.

The next round of talks is likely to be held on January 15.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at different border points of Delhi since November 26, against the laws which were enacted in September.
