New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday finally gave in to farmers’ repeated requests and allowed the tractor rally on Republic Day.
According to a union leader, farmers can enter Delhi and travel a distance of up to 100 km on each route, Hindustan Times reported.
The farmers had announced the tractor march some weeks ago, but the Centre was opposed to it. They approached the Supreme Court through Delhi Police against the march, claiming that the country’s pride will be dishonoured if the Republic Day parade was disrupted in any way.
The farmers’ unions have given an assurance that the parade won’t be disrupted.
The Supreme Court refused to interfere and said Delhi Police should take a call on the tractor march. They did, after several rounds of talks with union leaders.
