Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police, probing into the massive blast in a petrol pump near the Raj Bhawan on October 7, said that the faulty work by a private vessel company engaged in the unloading of the LPG in the underground chamber led to the blast.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said while the cause of the blast has not been confirmed, the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in its report has stated that the faulty work by the Faribadabad-based Surya Shakti Vessels Pvt Ltd during the inspection and repair of the underground LPG chamber triggered the blast.

Stating that the condition of the supervisor of the Surya Shakti Vessels Pvt Ltd Harshvardhan Srivastav is improving at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Sarangi said the police will take action against the company and its employees on the basis of the report by the SFSL.

“A senior police officer will visit the headquarters of the Surya Shakti Vessels Pvt Ltd at Faridabad in Haryana on November 14 and summon its owner and senior officials,” he added.

The Police Commissioner further said that the police will investigate whether the company had received the work order from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) through a tender and whether the IOCL before allocating the work order had examined the efficiency and the work quality of the company.
