Dubai: Rohit Sharma lost yet another toss, but Team India got to bat first for the first time in the 2025 Champions Trophy as New Zealand skipper Tom Latham opted to bowl at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams having already qualified for the semifinals, it’s a clash to decide which team tops Group A.
By the seventh over, however, India were tottering at 30/3 with Rohit (15), Shubman Gill (2) and Virat Kohli (11) back in the hut.
Thanks to a well-paced 79 (98 balls, 4×4, 2×6) by Shreyas Iyer and useful contributions from Axar Patel (42) and Hardik Pandya (45 off 45, 4×4, 2×6), India recovered to post a total of 249/9.
Pacer Matt Henry rocked the top order with two strikes in power play and finished with impressive figures of 5/42 in 8 overs.
If New Zealand manage to chase down 250, they will face Australia while India will take on South Africa in the semifinals.
