Bhubaneswar: India humbled hockey powerhouse Germany 3-0 in their FIH Pro League clash at Kalinga Stadium here on Thursday evening.
India consolidated their position atop the 9-team standings with 24 points from 11 matches. Second-placed Germany have 17 points from 9 games.
After a barren first quarter, Harmanpreet Singh converted two penalty corners to hand India a 2-0 advantage at the halfway stage.
Led ably by Odisha defender Amit Rohidas, the men in blue dominated proceedings and added a third goal just before the end of the third quarter through Abhishek’s penalty corner strike.
India thus repeated their show in the Tokyo Olympics, where they tamed Germany 5-4 to clinch bronze medal.
The two teams will face off again at the same venue on Friday, April 15.
