Mumbai: Deepika Padukone, whose exit from ‘Spirit’ and ‘Kalki 2’ over her 8-hour shift demand triggered a controversy, has broken her silence, stating that the film industry is quite disorganised.
During a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, Deepika revealed that male superstars have been working for 8 hours a day since ages, but that was never talked about. She added that some male actors work only 5 days a week and take off on weekdays, but this too was never a problem.
“By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines,” she said.
“I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends,” she added.
The actress further called out “a very disorganised industry”, stating that “it’s time we brought in some system into this culture.”
On the work front, Deepika is currently shooting for Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’.
Helmed by Siddharth Anand, the film also stars Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.
Deepika will also feature in Atlee’s upcoming film ‘AA22xA6’ alongside Allu Arjun.
