Finance Minister Tables Appropriation Bill In Odisha Assembly Amid Din Over ‘Pari Murder’ Issue

Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Niranjan Pujari on Sunday tabled the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly amid ruckus by BJP MLAs over murder of minor girl Pari in Nayagarh district.

With the BJP members creating an uproar in the House demanding resignation of Minister Arun Sahoo from the Cabinet in connection with the Pari murder and a CBI probe into the case, the Finance minister could not move the Appropriation Bill. BJP legislator Mohan Majhi was seen trying to climb atop the Speaker’s podium.

As the ruckus continued, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 11.30 am and later, till 3 pm.

BJP legislators also staged a dharna holding banners and placards to press their demands near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises.

The Assembly had unanimously passed the last Appropriation Bill allowing the state government to spend Rs 1.55 lakh crore from its consolidated fund during the financial year 2020-21 on March 30.

The Finance minister had presented the annual budget for 2020-21 financial year on February 18.
