Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, known for her witty one-liners, has landed in trouble over her ‘Chhapri’ remark for people celebrating Holi.
According to a report in ABP News, an FIR was filed against Farah on Friday at the Khar Police Station.
“My client states that this comment made by Farah Khan has insulted the religious sentiments of Hindus. The use of the term ‘Chhapris’ to describe a sacred festival is highly inappropriate and has the potential to cause communal tension,” said Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, complainant Vikash Fhatak’s advocate.
“The incident involves Ms Farah Khan, a prominent Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer, who recently made a highly derogatory and offensive remark against the Hindu festival of Holi,” Deshmukh added. “Through this complaint, I seek justice under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and request your esteemed office to initiate legal action against Khan for her irresponsible and inflammatory statements.”
On February 20, in an episode on Celebrity MasterChef, Farah, who was one of the judges along with Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar, stated that Holi is celebrated by chhapris (a casteist slur).
Fhatak aka Hindustani Bhau filed a complaint against the filmmaker for hurting religious sentiments.
The complaint has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 196, 299, 302, and 353.
Farah is yet to respond to the allegations.
