Bhubaneswar: A fire broke out near the runway of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, sparking concern among officials and passengers.
As per preliminary information, the blaze started in a grassy stretch close to the runway of the airport. Soon after the flames were noticed, the firefighters at the airport swung into action to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.
Acting swiftly, fire service team at the airport launched an operation and brought it under control. The flames were initially seen spreading through dry grass on the premises, and fire tenders rushed to the spot to contain the blaze before it escalated further.
Airport officials said that no damage occurred and flight operations continued without any disruption.
Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation to ascertain as to how the fire ignited in the dry grass. While the exact cause is yet to be determined, officials said all safety measures were in place to ensure smooth operations at the airport.
