Bhubaneswar: If it’s winter, can flower shows be far behind?
Bhubaneswar’s nature lovers have a feast coming up as the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAS), faculty of agricultural sciences of SOA Deemed to be University, will be organising the first SOA Flower Festival coinciding with the International Flower Day on January 19.
The festival will be held in the Institute of Agricultural Sciences premises on January 19 and 20, informed the institute’s Dean Prof. Santosh Kumar Rout.
On the first day, the festival will feature exhibitions of different flowers and flower arrangements, besides competitions.
The second day will feature a symposium focusing on scientific methods of floriculture, information about provision of government incentives for flower cultivation and availability of bank loan for the purpose.
Experts on floriculture, bank officials, officers of the government’s Directorate of Horticulture and entrepreneurs in the field will attend the symposium.
“We expect the festival will not only attract flower lovers and farmers but the competitions will draw flower lovers, entrepreneurs and members of the public,” said Prof. Sashikala Beura, head of Floriculture and Land Scaping department at IAS.
