Bhubaneswar: The ‘Chess Mahakumbh – International Conference on Social & Educational Chess’ will be held in India for the first time. And Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) will have the honour of staging the conference from January 14 to 16, in association with the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and All India Chess Federation (AICF).
FIDE president and former Russian deputy PM Arkady Dvorkovich, and India’s first GM and five-time World champion Viswanathan Anand will grace the prestigious event.
Anand will inaugurate the International Chess Hall and Chess ground at the KIIT campus.
The mega event will bring together eminent chess personalities from 40 countries, including 80 delegates from India.
Over 5,200 participants are expected, comprising 43 FIDE delegates, 76 AICF delegates, 60 AOCA delegates and 5,000-plus chess players from India.
KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said it’s a matter of immense pride for Odisha that KIIT is organising such a prestigious international chess conference for the first time in India.
He noted that the event will provide significant exposure and opportunities for young chess players from the state and inspire future generations.
