The first person to receive the vaccine shot in the US was Sandra Lindsay, a critical care nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York.
“I hope this marks the beginning of the end of the very painful time in our history. I want to instill public confidence that the vaccine is safe,” Lindsay said after being administered the vaccine live on TV.
The vaccines are packed in dry ice and kept at ultra-frozen temperatures. They are shipped in trucks and planes around the country from Pfizer’s Kalamazoo, Michigan, factory.
The US will vaccinate healthcare and frontline workers first.
The vaccine will be given in two doses, three weeks apart.
Nearly 3 lakh Americans have lost their lives in the pandemic.
