Fisherman Gets Rs 30 Lakh Demonetised Notes In Odisha’s Cuttack District

Bhubaneswar: Almost four years after the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes in the country, thrown away old notes continue to surface. In the latest incident, a fisherman found a bagful of the notes from a canal in Cuttack district.

On Wednesday, some fishermen of Barang were fishing in the canal when one of them fished out the bag. While other fishermen gathered to know the contents inside the bag, the fisherman opened it to find the old notes.

Though they knew that the notes were of no use, when they counted those, the total value amounted to Rs 30 lakh.

Since possession of demonetized notes is illegal, they threw the notes back into the canal.
