Five arrested for hurling eggs at Union Agriculture Minister’s car
Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress activists on Saturday hurled eggs at Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh’s vehicle and waved black flags near the state guest house here to protest against the death of five farmers in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district.
The incident took place when the Union Minster was on his way to attend a programme on ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Bikas’ in Jatani.
A case was registered at the Capital police station and five party workers, including state youth Congress president Lokanath Maharathy, were arrested in connection with the incident, said police commissioner YB Khurania.
Meanwhile, the Odisha unit of BJP strongly condemned the attack and blamed the state government for the incident. “The Congress has lost its credibility across the country. I suspect the egg were hurled at the instance of the ruling BJD,” Odisha BJP leader in-charge Arun Singh said.
On June 6, five farmers were killed in police firing during a strike at the central city of Mandsuar in Madhya Pradesh. The farmers had launched the agitation, seeking better prices for their farm produce and agricultural loan waivers.
