Noida: In a tragic incident, five members of a family, including three children aged 3 to 11, were found dead at their home in a village of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
The police suspect that food poisoning could have caused the deaths. Food samples have been collected and sent for tests. The family had reportedly eaten noodles the previous night.
The deceased have been identified as Mahesh (37), his wife Lalita (35), and their children Laddu (11), Mishti (7) and Sakshat (3), as reported by India Today.
Information about the deaths was received this morning, the police said. Local police, senior officers, an ambulance and a team from the food safety department reached the spot quickly.
A forensic team and a field unit inspected the scene and collected scientific evidence. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Mahesh’s mother and people living in the neighbourhood told them that the family had eaten noodles the previous night, the police said. The preliminary assessment points to possible food poisoning, but the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
The final cause will be established through post-mortem reports and other scientific tests. Police said further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident brings back memories of a similar incident in Mumbai in April this year, when four members of a family died after consuming watermelon. Rat poison was later detected in the fruit and in their visceras.
