Balasore: There was loud music, a lot of good food and liquor, and dancing. All that it takes for a great party.
Unfortunately, this party turned out to be too costly for the five policemen in charge of security at the district collector’s bungalow in Balasore, Odisha.
All of them have been suspended.
The five had turned the guardroom of the bungalow into a party zone on June 1, when collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash was away on an official tour.
They had not sought any permission. Not that it would have been granted, even if they had.
What became their undoing was a video that started doing the rounds after the party. It showed the policemen dancing to music under the influence of alcohol.
Among those suspended was Havildar Hemanta Barik and constables Siddheshwar Gochhayat, Deba Majhi, Sudhanshu Jena and Ramachandra Tapaswi.
Acting on directions by the Balasore Superintendent of Police, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has launched a probe into the incident. Empty liquor bottles found near the guard room were collected as evidence.
