Bhubaneswar: A section of the road on National Highway (NH-16), near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, has been submerged by floodwater from Bahuda river. Consequently, vehicular traffic was disrupted on NH-16 on Thursday.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has advised the public to abide by instructions issued by the local authorities.
The Bahuda river was flowing over NH-16 near Ichchapuram, on the Andhra-Odisha border.
“Due to the overflow of the Bahuda River near Ichchapuram, at the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border along the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway (NH-16), vehicular movement has been disrupted. Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow the instructions issued by the local authorities on-site,” NHAI said.
NH-16, a major highway that runs along the eastern coast of India, passes through several districts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
At some other places, roads were washed away or they caved in.
Cyclone ‘Arnab’, which made landfall near the Andhra and Puducherry coast in the early hours of October 28, brought heavy rainfall initially in Odisha and Andhra.
As many as 17 districts in Odisha were affected by the cyclonic storm.
