Bhubaneswar: With cold wave sweeping Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast shallow to moderate fog during morning hours in interior districts of the state for two days.
Dry weather will prevail thereafter with no large change in the night temperature during next 5 days.
Notably, the minimum temperature plummeted to 7.2 degree Celsius at G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district in the last 24 hours. The mercury hovered between 9 and 10 degree Celsius at four places in the state and dropped below 15 degree Celsius at 17 places, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Keonjhar and Kirei in Sundargarh recorded 9.4 degree Celsius each followed by Daringbadi and Phulbani, also in Kandhamal district, at 9.5 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius, respectively, Angul (10.6), Sundargarh (11), Koraput (11.2), and Balasore and Rourkela at 11.3 degree Celsius each. Twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw mercury dropping to 14.6 and 14.5 degree Celsius, respectively.
In tribal areas of Kandhamal, Koraput, Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts, people were seen sitting around fires to beat the cold.
Moderate to dense fog also occurred at one or two places in Sundargarh, Koraput and Kandhamal. “There was an appreciable fall in the minimum temperature at a few places in North Coastal Odisha, at one or two places in North Interior, Interior and Coastal Odisha,” the weather agency said.
Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of Odisha till January 2.
