Forces Exchange Gunfire With Maoists In Odisha; Camp Articles, Sophisticated Weapon Seized

Boudh: An exchange of fire took place between Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans and Maoists at Sagada under Manmunda police limits in Odisha’s Boudh district on Monday evening.

According to police sources, the rebels fled leaving behind a few camp articles and a sophisticated weapon. A few of them are suspected to have sustained injuries in the firefight along Boudh-Kandhamal border, which lasted for more than 30 minutes.

Search and combing operation are continuing.

This came a week after security personnel busted a Maoist camp after exchange of fire with the rebels at Upar Danganamu in the forested area on Kandhamal and Boudh district border. Around 40 Maoists were in the camp. A country-made gun, 12 IEDs, six fire-crackers, two gelatin sticks, one electric detonator, five metres of safety fuse, six pairs of batteries, flash camera power source, around 50 metres of wire and belongings of the rebels were seized from the camp area.

Last month, two SOG jawans had sustained injuries after an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly planted by Maoists exploded in Sirla forest under Tumudibandha of Kandhamal district.
