Bhubaneswar: A former Assistant Executive Engineer of Rural Development Department in Odisha was dismissed from service following his conviction in a bribery case.
Srikanta Kumar Mahunta, who was Assistant Executive Engineer at Basudevpur sub-division in Bhadrak district, was dismissed from government service by the competent authority as per the provision of OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962, said the Vigilance press release on Wednesday.
Mahunta was convicted on September 24, 2024, and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor. The bribe was allegedly taken to facilitate measurement and check measurement of a road construction project under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
After his conviction, Odisha Vigilance communicated the matter to the competent authority, recommending appropriate action. Consequently, Mahunta was dismissed from government service on May 21, 2025, as per the provisions of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962.
