Former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have been arrested in Srinagar, according to media reports.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba has been taken to Hari Niwas guest house, News 18 reported.
“Your activities are likely to cause a breach of peace, keeping into consideration your recent activities that may cause a serious law and order situation,” an order by an Executive Magistrate First Class said.
Mehbooba, along with other major political leaders, were under house arrest since Sunday evening.
The BJP-led government on Monday morning revoked Article 370 and announced that the state would become a Union Territory with Ladakh as a separate division.
After the announcement Abdullah tweeted, “The scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A raise fundamental questions on the state’s accession because that was done on the very terms enunciated in these Articles. The decisions are unilateral, illegal and unconstitutional and will be challenged as such by the National Conference. A long and tough battle lies ahead”.
Mehbooba, a former ally of the BJP, called the intention of the Indian government “sinister” and said “if standing up for my people makes me a separatist and anti-national then its a badge I will wear with honour.”
How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people & their voices are being muzzled in J&K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude. Wake up India

She also tweeted that the government is trying to “dismember the state” and take away what “rightfully and legally” belongs to Kashmiris.
