Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former Odisha Minister Niranjan Patnaik on Monday announced that he will not contest elections anymore.
Patnaik, a former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president, cited age as the primary reason behind his decision to stay away from electoral battle. However, the veteran leader stated that he would continue to be associated with political activities.
The Congress stalwart further stated that his move is aimed giving greater opportunities to the younger generation in politics. He told reporters that the young leaders in the party should take charge now to rejuvenate the organisation.
“I will not be contesting any elections in the future primarily because of my age. It is also necessary to provide opportunities to the young leaders who can bring fresh ideas and energy into politics,” said Patnaik.
The senior leader indicated that he would continue to guide the party despite his decision to keep himself away from contesting elections anymore.
